Hollywood / Hallandale Summary & Conclusions |
| |
From the Broward County Department of Natural Resouce Protection 1996 Report
(Reference)
- In November of 1994, Tropical Storm Gordon caused significant (67,500 cubic yards) volume losses to the
project area. Overall, the beach performed well during the storm and protected the
Hollywood/Hallandale beachfront from storm wave damages.
From the Broward County Department of Natural Resouce Protection 1997 Report
(Reference)
- Forty-nine percent of the fill, or 543,132 cubic yards remains within the project area and the project
shoreline has receded an average of 14.0 feet per year, approximately five years after the
renourishment. The decrease in erosion rate indicates that the project fill may be stabilizing
to a constant erosion rate. In areas within the project, specifically the end areas, between
R101 to R104 and R122 to R124, where the beach has eroded severely. If erosion and shoreline
recession continues at the present rate the beachfront at these areas may be subject to storm wave damage.
