Lovers Key Summary & Conclusions |
| |
From the Coastal Planning & Engineering 2005 Report
(Reference)
- Due to the combined effects of Hurricane Charley and other storms, some sand from the project over-washed
across the island and migrated alongshore to the adjacent ebb shoal. Post-construction
surveys show more sand removed from the borrow area than measured on the beach. The project
area has significantly more sand volume and beach width than the pre-construction conditions of
the beach. Despite the impacts of the active hurricane season, the fill volume and beach widths
will provide storm protection and recreational benefits for years to come.
BSRC Notes:
- There are some problems in the post-construction survey, such as monument offsets and offshore
inconsistency, which caused some discrepencies between the reported CP&E and BSRC shoreline
change results.
- The BSRC calculated pre to post construction volume change to 800 feet offshore rather than
the depth of -8 feet (NGVD). The resulting value is 582,498 cy compared to
533,385 cy reported by CP&E.
