Smathers Beach Summary & Conclusions |
| |
From the Consulting Engineering & Science, Inc. 2003 Report
(Reference)
- Two new jetties were completed in March 2001, J-2 and J-3. The X-sections and plan sheets show a
slight change in the seagrass line, apparently around the jetties. In addition, there
are a few areas around J-4 where the underwater surface was extremely soft due to significant
accumulation of sediments.
- The profiles of the renourishment project at 6, 12, 24, and 36 months from construction are very
close to the original, supporting the accuracy of the design analysis, to date. In addition,
the line of seagrass has varied slightly from that prior to construction, also verifying
design analysis.
- The total net loss of seagrass as a result of the project is 30,500 square feet, or 0.70 acres.
