Knight Island Hot Spots

Prior to the nourishment project, the south end of the beach fill project area in the vicinity of R-30 was the area with the most severe erosion.  Because of this, the beach fill construction width was the widest in this area.  This was done to counteract the high erosion stress.  Additionally, it was anticipated that eventually sand from the north would migrate into this area.

Southward sand transport into the vicinity of R-30 was not as rapid as anticipated, and due to the high erosion stress experienced at the southern end of the project, property owners in that area have constructed a seawall to provide protection from storms.
